07 Jan SELINA BROUGHT TECHNO TRAILBLAZER NADAV DAGON TO PANAMA. HERE’S WHAT HE HAS TO SAY
Posted at 14:35h
If you joined Selina for our Halloween Party
or Fiestas Patrias Celebration, you just might have heard Nadav Dagon.
When we first heard Nadav’s jaw-dropping live techno set, we knew we had to get him to play at Selina. He’s exactly the type of raw international talent we strive to have filling the air– his sound waves drenching with crisp innovation, fierce passion, and ferocious energy.
What’s unique about Nadav is that his dynamic live techno set is based only on playing: live drums, samplers, and many other toys creating an endless playground of sound. In a genre often governed by pre-recorded tracks, Nadav reaches unusual (and impressive) heights of improv during his set– with 100% live performance that awakens and inspires.
We had a chance to talk with Nadav between his performances in our Selina Playa Venao
location. Here’s your chance to get to know Nadav, the man behind the drumstick, a little better.
How would you describe your music?
My music is a 100% live version of a techno/deep house with a tribal vibe. I love to collaborate with various vocalists to write lyrics and create a richer, deeper experience.
What influences your music?
My strongest influences are the things that are happening in my life in that moment… friends, nature, a woman. These all ignite the fire of my creations. Besides that, the rainbow of artists that influence me is very wide – Fella Kuti, Tony Allen, Chemical Brothers, Acid Pauli, Brian Eno, and old Brazilian, aboriginal and African rhythms.
To say your music is unique is an understatement. How did you come to develop such an eclectic style?
I began this journey with just a computer. Then at some point I got bored, but my musician soul was asking for more. So I started to teach my body to play the track live. I wanted to find the source and create from there. I realized that this was something new so I just went with it and this project was born.
You’re an international artist, with invitations to play around the world. What made you want to perform at Selina Playa Venao?
One day I saw photos of my dear friend on a beautiful beach in Panama [Playa Venao.] I told him that I have to come there. Later, I learned about a very cool hostel on the beach [Selina Hostels] with very good parties. They invited me to come play! And since [Selina Hostels] fits my vision, I am excited to come.
I like to believe that my music is very free and open minded, as is the vibe of la playa.
