WHAT WAS SELINA HOSTELS DOING IN THE PANAMA JUNGLE?

WHAT WAS SELINA HOSTELS DOING IN THE PANAMA JUNGLE?

From the moment we heard about HATCH Latin America, we knew we had to be involved.

HATCH is a series of annual, exclusive events wherein hundreds of global innovators, artists, and entrepreneurs gather to connect, collaborate, and take action towards a better future.

It’s exactly the kind of progressive, grand-scale thinking we strive to cultivate at Selina– which is why we decided to come on as a founding partner for the HATCH Latin American Summit.

Yarrow Kraner, HATCH founder, speaks to 100+ global innovators at #HATCHLatAm16

With over 16 wildly successful events over the last 12 years, HATCH has had significant positive impact on issues across the board– education, environment, technology, and economy (just to name a few.)

HATCH PANAMA marks the first-ever HATCH event to take place outside the U.S. It happened in, of all places, the Panama rainforest– where a collective called Kalu Yala is building the world’s most sustainable modern village. The 4-day, off-the-grid event was transformative– for countless attendees, for Selina, and for Panama. We expect to see a wave of innovation and impact reverberate through Panama and Latin America #becauseofHATCH.

Selina Hostels and HATCH: A Likely Alliance

Anyone who knows Selina knows we’re much more than a chain of hostels.

Our goal is to create inspiring co-work and co-play spaces for a new generation of travelers, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads.

Our locations are thoughtfully designed for those with a zest for life, and appreciation for conscious living. People looking to play, work, rest, and connect within a beautiful environment and carefully curated atmosphere.

Rafi Museri, Selina Hostels co-founder and CEO, tells the story of Selina to HATCH and Kalu Yala participants.

In other words, exactly the type of people at HATCH Latin America.

With attendees ranging from inventors, educators, designers, philanthropists and environmentalists, the energy in the air at HATCH was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Combine that with the surreal and magnificent backdrop of the Panama rainforest– where our friends Kalu Yala are busy building the world’s most sustainable modern town.

HATCH is exactly the kind of creative catalyst Latin America needs. It brought together 100+ of some of the smartest minds in the region to have meaningful conversations about issues that affect us all– economy, education, environment. Past HATCH events have led to “hundreds new projects and collaborations, and ongoing mentorship opportunities.” We’re ecstatic to see what kind of magic is birthed from this one, and to have the opportunity and the privilege to contribute to the movement.

After the event, a group of HATCH attendees and “Kalu Yalans” (as we call anyone associated with the flourishing Kalu Yala community) joined us for 3 days of rest and rejuvenation in the candy-colored paradise of Selina Playa Venao.

After 4 fun but fast-paced days in the rainforest and megapolis of Panama City, the laid-back beachfront vibes of Selina came as a welcome change of pace.

As one of our HATCH guests put it, Selina “provided the perfect setting for more magic.” The combination of HATCH attendees, Kalu Yalans, Selina staff, and the always-awesome crowd of travelers, locals, and expats at Selina made for a truly fantastic weekend.

This was Kalu Yala’s second time joining us at Selina Playa Venao, having spent several days with us after their 5-day, 150-person Jungle New Year’s Event.

Kalu Yala is another incredible project that has captured our hearts and imaginations at Selina.

Their 600-acre townsite– set within a magnificent 7000 acres of impossibly green hills, pristine rivers, and mystic waterfalls– is a breathtaking sight to behold, with an even more inspiring history and future

Jimmy Stice, president of Kalu Yala, speaks with Selina COO Lior Zach and Creative Director Oz Zechovoy.

Part of the Kalu Yala vision is to build beautiful, eco-friendly architecture, carefully designed to bring people together and work in harmony with the environment. It’s a vision we can get behind. Kalu Yala and Selina have already begun collaborating on our newest Selina Pedasi location, the first of many collaborations between Kalu Yala and Selina.

All in all, HATCH Latin America 2016 was a revolutionary event. We’re ecstatic to have had the privilege of connecting with so many inspiring organizations and individuals. The extraordinary level of passion and creativity that defined this event is exactly what we cultivate at Selina Hostels, and what we’d like to see cultivated across Latin America.

We’re excited to see what ideas, collaborations, and solutions will come to fruition #becauseofHATCH, and to continue to join forces with organizations like HATCH and Kalu Yala to help create a new era for Latin America.
